They really do everything they can to make you believe these characters are more than just fictional characters, which I respect a lot. One of my favorite parts is how they Conan does a gulp (or something) right after Haibara says she noticed Conan's kid clothes were missing because of how completely shocked and scared he is of this sudden turn of events. Every facial expression is done perfectly, with Haibara's sudden evil smirk really adding to her sudden revealed identity and Conan's many shocked expressions pretty much mimicking what the audience is like at the time. While the animation and art have never been great, the anime can be really good at little moments and subtle stuff and this really shows it better than any other part of the series. Also, it helps that both cases were really good (it's pratically the only real kidnapping case that isn't an AO).īut what really makes it work are the character interactions in the anime, mainly Conan and Haibara. Not to mention how they added to scenes to make them more complete instead of just "standing around doing nothing" filler. Stuff like that's a great way to make it seem like anything can happen and it shows just how dangerous the organization is. There was also something that needs to be done more often, with revealing that the BO had been around and can just go into Shinichi's house like they own the place. The twist itself was perfect, with Haibara basically changing the game completely by just talking for a minute. It's easily the best use of the "fake possible BO appearance" since it was the perfect way to get people off guard so that when Haibara revealed herself it was more unexpected (and I already figured out Haibara was part of the Organization at that point and even I was shocked). Too obvious a pick I admit, but it almost single handedly made this show far more than a neverending excuse plot and had the introduction of the greatest character ever.Įven ignoring that, it just did everything so perfectly. Could Ishak be next on the list, or is he the man responsible? Tracking down his more ‘unsavoury’ allies, Serena is shocked to encounter a familiar face: that of her grieving ex-partner, former Malaysian ICD officer Megat Jamil (Bront Palarae). It's EASILY 129. As Serena and Heri work together to catch the killer, their inquiries lead them to industrialist/kingpin Datuk Ishak Hassan (Wan Hanafi Su), whose prominent family and known associates all have some connection to the victims. Seeking answers, Heri finds a way to insert himself into the Malaysian investigation. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, for ICD Lieutenant Heriyanto Salim (Ario Bayu), the case turns personal when his brother is found murdered in similar circumstances. Called in to investigate, Singaporean International Crimes Division (ICD) officer Serena Teo (Rebecca Lim) takes charge of a case across the border where a family has been slaughtered aboard a luxury yacht in Johor.
